About Me

Hi, I’m James Walker, the creator and voice behind Absolutely Losing It. I’m really glad you’re here.

If you are wondering about the name, it is a little dramatic on purpose. Absolutely Losing It captures the chaos, creativity, and occasional kitchen meltdowns that come with learning, experimenting, and falling in love with food.

This blog is my space to share the real, unfiltered journey of cooking. The wins, the flops, and the recipes that make it all worth it.

Growing Up and Finding My Way to the Kitchen

I grew up in a typical American suburb where life was busy and schedules were packed. My family did not run a restaurant or attend culinary school, but we did gather around the table every night. Dinner was our reset button. No matter what kind of day we had, we showed up, passed the plates, and talked it out.

As a kid, I was curious about how things worked. That curiosity extended to food. Why did browning meat make it taste better? Why did certain spices completely change a dish? I started helping out in the kitchen, first with simple tasks and later with full meals.

Cooking slowly became more than a chore. It became something that felt like mine.

My Background Before Food Blogging

Before launching Absolutely Losing It, I followed a more conventional path. I studied business and communications, thinking I would build a steady corporate career. After graduation, I worked in marketing and project management. I learned how to build strategies, meet deadlines, and understand audiences.

While that experience shaped my professional mindset, I always felt a creative itch. After long workdays, I would unwind by cooking. I began experimenting with bold flavors, recreating restaurant dishes, and testing my limits in the kitchen.

Some attempts were incredible. Others were complete disasters. I documented everything, often joking with friends that I was absolutely losing it trying to perfect a recipe.

That joke eventually became the name of my blog.

How Absolutely Losing It Was Born

The blog started as a personal outlet. I wanted a place to share recipes, thoughts, and lessons from my kitchen experiments. I was not aiming for perfection. I wanted honesty.

I wrote about over salted soups and burnt cookies alongside recipes that turned out beautifully. Readers connected with that authenticity. They appreciated seeing the process, not just the polished result.

As traffic grew, I realized I had the opportunity to turn this passion into something more serious. I began studying food photography, improving my recipe testing methods, and learning about the technical side of running a website. I treated the blog like a business while keeping its heart personal.

Over time, Absolutely Losing It evolved from a creative hobby into a full time career.

My Approach to Cooking

I believe cooking should feel empowering, not intimidating. My goal is to break down recipes in a way that makes sense, especially for people who might feel overwhelmed in the kitchen.

I focus on bold flavors, practical techniques, and clear explanations. I want you to understand why a method works, not just follow steps blindly. When you understand the fundamentals, you gain confidence.

I test every recipe multiple times to make sure it is reliable and approachable. If something can go wrong, I will tell you how to fix it. If there is a shortcut that does not sacrifice flavor, I will share it.

Cooking is not about being perfect. It is about learning, adapting, and sometimes laughing at yourself along the way.

Becoming a Professional Food Blogger

Turning Absolutely Losing It into a professional platform required dedication. I invested in culinary education, researched flavor science, and studied content strategy to ensure that my work met high standards. I refined my writing style, improved my visual storytelling, and built relationships within the food blogging community.

Today, I collaborate with brands that align with my values and create content that is both creative and trustworthy. I take pride in producing recipes that readers can rely on.

What started as late night kitchen experiments has grown into a career built on passion, persistence, and a genuine love for sharing food.

Why I Do This

Food has a way of bringing clarity when everything else feels overwhelming. It forces you to slow down, focus, and create something tangible. That process has grounded me through stressful seasons and exciting milestones alike.

Through Absolutely Losing It, I hope to give you recipes that inspire confidence and stories that remind you it is okay to make mistakes. The kitchen is not a stage for perfection. It is a space for growth.

Thank you for being here and for following along on this journey. Let’s keep experimenting, learning, and maybe losing it just a little in the best possible way.
