Ingredients

  • 1 package pizza dough store-bought or homemade, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or other melting cheese
  • 0.5 cup pizza sauce pizza sauce or marinara
  • 1 large egg for sealing dough edges
  • as needed flour for dusting

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Rolling pin

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly dust a work surface with flour. Roll out the pizza dough into a large, even circle or oval, about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the surface, leaving a small border around the edges.
  3. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the sauce, covering all but the outer border. This will melt beautifully and create a gooey base for your mummy decoration.
  4. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 12–15 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned. Remove from oven and set aside to cool slightly.
  5. While the pizza cools for a few minutes, take another piece of dough and roll it out into thin strips. These will serve as the mummy's bandages, so keep them as thin and long as possible.
  6. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into strips, about 1/4 inch wide. Be creative with the length, aiming for a mix of longer and shorter strips.
  7. Begin arranging the dough strips on the pizza, starting from the edges and overlapping toward the center to resemble bandages wrapping a mummy. Press the strips gently into the melted cheese so they adhere well.
  8. If desired, use a small beaten egg to seal the edges of your dough strips with the crust, to prevent them from lifting during bake and to add a glossy finish.
  9. Place the decorated pizza back into the oven and bake for an additional 3–5 minutes, until the dough strips are lightly golden and crispy.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Slice into pieces, revealing the bubbly cheese and the intricately wrapped mummy decoration.
  11. Serve slices warm, showcasing the playful bandage design and melty cheese—the perfect spooky snack for Halloween fun.
