Ingredients

  • 8 pieces beef hot dogs plump and juicy
  • 1 can crescent dough store-bought for speed
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese shredded, optional for extra gooeyness
  • 8 small black olives for eyes
  • 1 egg egg beaten, for egg wash
  • to taste paprika or smoked pepper optional, for extra flavor

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp Knife
  • Small spoon or tweezers for eyes
  • Brush for egg wash

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into the individual triangles, then cut each triangle into thin strips to mimic bandages.
  3. Wrap each hot dog with the dough strips, starting from the tip and spiraling up to leave a small face area uncovered.
  4. Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, seam side down to secure the dough.
  5. Press a small olive slice into the uncovered face area of each mummy for eyes, or use cheese or other substitutes if preferred.
  6. Brush the dough with beaten egg for a shiny, golden finish, and sprinkle with paprika if you like a smoky, spicy aroma.
  7. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese, if used, is melted and gooey.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest for a few minutes; the dough will be piping hot and flaky.
  9. Serve these playful treats with your favorite condiments like mustard or ketchup for extra fun and flavor.

Notes

For a spookier touch, add tiny bits of cheese or use colorful peppers for eyes. Keep an eye on baking time to prevent over-browning. These are best enjoyed warm while crispy.
