Watermelon Slushie

A watermelon slushie is a refreshing frozen dessert made by blending frozen chunks of ripe watermelon with sweeteners and flavorings until smooth and icy. The final texture is a vibrant pink, semi-thick, and slushy consistency, perfect for hot summer days. It often includes a hint of mint or lime for an added zing.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon preferably frozen overnight
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional sweetener
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice optional for zing
  • a few leaves fresh mint optional, for garnish and flavor

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Freezer

Method

  1. Place the frozen watermelon chunks into the blender, ensuring they are evenly spread out for smooth blending.
  2. Add honey and lime juice to the blender for extra sweetness and a tangy kick. These ingredients help brighten the flavor of the slushie.
  3. Pulse the blender a few times, then blend on high until the mixture transforms into a smooth, icy slush with a vibrant pink hue. You should hear the blender whirling and see the ice turning into a fine, even texture.
  4. If the mixture isn't icy enough, add a few more frozen watermelon chunks and pulse again until the desired consistency is achieved.
  5. Pour the slushie into glasses, filling them almost to the top. The texture should be thick, cold, and with visible ice crystals.
  6. Garnish each glass with a few fresh mint leaves for a fragrant, refreshing finish. Serve immediately to enjoy the icy, juicy treat at its best.

Notes

Ensure the watermelon is frozen overnight for the best slushie texture. You can adjust sweetness with more honey or lime according to your preference. For a dairy-free option, skip adding any ingredients containing dairy.
